About my work
The inspiration for my work comes from nature, especially focussing upon microscopic imagery. It is the element of pattern which fascinates me most. Key themes run throughout the making process; these include repetition, transition and changing surfaces.
My current body of work uses a robust paper for both sculptural and relief outcomes. Other materials used include silks, wool and thick canvas. Each material’s weight and texture inform construction methods and patterns as well as the overall feel of a piece. Subtle variations are achieved by hand dying the chosen materials and carefully selecting and composing the ‘units’ to construct a form or surface.
